Adult Ministry

Young Adults: “Young” is a relative term, right? This group is made up of adults in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s that enjoy fellowship and spiritual discussion with other adults. This group engages in Bible studies, topical discussions, and occasional outings such as picnics and adult only dinners. The group also occasionally sponsors or leads other work projects and events within the church.

Parents Night Out: This event is a highlight of the month for many parents. One Saturday night a month, parents can drop kids off at ACC for free childcare from 5:00-10:00pm. Parents use this time to go on dates, do some shopping, tackle home improvement projects and many other things. In return, parents volunteer to watch the kids with other parents for 2-3 Saturdays each year. The evening program for the children begins with play and craft time, then dinner and finally snack and quite time. Children of all ages are welcome including infants.

Sunday Morning Bible Study Class: Adult Bible study classes meet at 9:30 am September through May. Our Sunday School classes examines themes of scripture and digs deeply into spirituality. Childcare is available for children ages four and under when parents attend adult Sunday School Class.

Wonderful Wednesdays: Come for a family meal and fellowship at 6:00 p.m. and stay for courses that will help our faith grow.

A potluck meal is offered with the main course provided by the church. Feel free to bring a side dish to share. Please don’t feel you have to bring something to share. Come right from work. Just think one nights meal you don’t have to plan or clean up after!

Fellowship: Get to know other church folks and visitors in a relaxed setting.

Nursery and Kids Club is offered for the Children.

Adults choose from two adult groups for learning and growing in spirit.

Women’s Ministry: The Women’s Ministry at ACC focuses on bringing women of all stages of life together for times of spiritual growth, friendship, and fun.

A Secret Sisters Ministry started in 2011 at ACC. Secret Sisters is a ministry between you and another sister in our church. She will not know who you are, but she will know you are there thinking of her and praying for her. This is a great opportunity to get to know other women within our church.

Adult over 50 ministry: If you are 50 or older or just feel like it this group is for you. They spend time together for devotions, some fun, discussion on future events, and of course a snack.  This is a time to get to know one another and make new friends.

Prayer Shawl Ministry:  The Prayer Shawl ministry is a group of people that like to do something with their hands. As they knit and crochet shawls for members, the crafters share prayer, devotions, and fellowship.  As the shawls get finished they dedicate them to  whoever is the recipient.  The prayer shawls let the recipient know we are symbolically surrounding them with prayers and love. Open to anyone who can knit or crochet or would like to learn.

Quilt Ministry: Women come together at various times throughout the year and make quilts that are donated to local area homeless shelters and bags that are taken on our international mission trips filled with school supplies. The women also make lap blankets to give to recipients throughout the year who are need of prayer.

Adult MissionTrip: Adults go on a yearly week long service mission trip somewhere in the states or internationally. Construction projects, building relationships with those we serve, learning about different cultures, and fellowship with one another are the main focus of the trips.

Golf Outing:  Annual Regional Golf Outing. This event is for all disciples in the Upper Midwest Region; lay persons, clergy, hackers, duffers, big hitters, one-putters, 10 handicap, 20 handicap, whomever!!!  ACC placed 1rst and 2nd place awards for performance in 2011, with 2 of our members winning individual best shot awards.

Fantasy Football Team: Church League fantasy football league for fun and fellowship.

Volleyball Team: We participate in a Disciples Volleyball League for Des Moines area Disciple churches. Meets on Mondays with a fall and winter league. ACC’s volleyball team was the League Champions in 2010!

Prayer Chain: Experience God’s life changing power through our prayer ministry.

Single Together: We are partnered with the the Ankeny Ministerial Assoxiation that sponsors a Single Adult group that is open to all singles (never-married, widowed, separated, divorced), age 25 and up. Check out the Singles Minstry sidebar for more info on upcoming events.

Camp Counselors: Each summer adults and children from Ankeny Christian Church attend camp at our Christian Conference center in Newton Iowa. The week-long event involves games, bible study, creative activities, great food, good worship around the campfire, and the intentional influence of camp counselors. The camp counselors are selected, screened, and trained for this important camp ministry. They find that their ministry is personally rewarding, and both campers and counselors grow in the process.
